Sophie Dahl was born in 1979, the daughter of Tessa Dahl, a writer, and actor Julian Holloway.
Famously her grandfather was Roald Dahl, the famous Children's writer, who dedicated the BFG, to her when she was a young girl.
Dahl's childhood was one where she was pushed between LA, and a English boarding school, which it is said contributed to her depression and anorexia, which she overcame. Her ambition was either to write or to act, but at the age of 18, she was potted while having a argument with her mother by Vogue writer, Isabella Blow, who also discovered Stella Tennant, so Isabella Blow passed Sophie's deatils onto the modelling agency, Storm.
The Blonde haired, blue eyed, "size 14" as she was at the time, made a quick hit, the fact she was almost 6 foot tall, and larger in weight and physique, than almost every famous model of the time, helped make a name for herself. She was compared to fat models, which many found annoying, as of course was not that fat, just a little above average weight. Which in a sense was ironic, as she at times was made fun of whenever she upped a little in weight when younger. So from 1996, to 1997, she became the fashion sensation of the year.
